The neighborhood was first started around 1949 and 1950. Forrest Walker & Sons, a local dredging and land clearing firm, started the development process in 1949, by purchasing the 296 acres from Jamaica Channel between the present 14th Avenue South and Little Harbour Lane. Work began in earnest in 1950. The land locked lots originally sold for $2,500, canal lots sold for $4,000, and deep water bayfront lots were $7,000. Today’s current prices, puts Aqualane Shores’ waterfront lot values over $1 million.
