FLORIDA LEGISLATURE – Governor Charlie Crist directed the Florida Legislature to reconsider real estate tax reform at yet another special session to be held later this month – in time to assure a measure appears before voters in the January 29 primary election.
HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE – By the close of business yesterday, insurers had to file their “true-up” rate filings with the state – rate requests based on current risk after the latest legislative changes. The highest rate request came from Allstate, which asked for an average 42 percent increase.
DOWNPAYMENT ASSISTANCE – AmeriDream and Nehemiah Corp. of America are suing Housing and Urban Development in an attempt to overturn its new rule that bans seller-financed downpayment assistance. The nonprofit groups are two of the largest providers of such assistance.
